In Nasarawa State, police have recovered N6.9 million and several guns left behind by suspected kidnappers following a car accident in Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area.
The crash happened around 9 a.m. on Monday, August 18, after officers received a report about an Opel Vectra that collided near the Vehicle Inspection Office checkpoint.
The two people inside the car ran away when the accident occurred, leaving weapons and cash behind. A VIO officer collected a G3 rifle and the money and handed them over to the police.
When the vehicle was taken to the station, a search uncovered another G3 rifle, an AK-47, a Type 06 rifle, three magazines, 57 rounds of ammunition, and N6.9 million.
A joint operation with the military led to the arrest of Mohammed Tahir from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State. He admitted during questioning that he was part of a seven-member kidnapping gang responsible for abducting a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja.
The gang had collected ransom money and was traveling to Jos to divide it when the accident occurred.
All recovered items and the suspect were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, on the orders of Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed. Police continue to search for the other gang members and have urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies.
