UNILAG First-Class Graduate Wins Scholarship To Study In France, Italy, Germany

Samuel Badekale, a brilliant graduate of the University of Lagos, has achieved another milestone after finishing with a perfect 5.00 CGPA in Cell Biology and Genetics. He has now won the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarship in Bio-membranes.

Badekale, who was the Best Overall Graduating Student and Best in Sciences for the 2023/2024 academic session, is the only Nigerian and West African chosen for the highly competitive scholarship funded by the European Union.

Through the programme, he will spend the next two years studying at three world-class universities: Université Côte d’Azur in France, University of Genoa in Italy, and University of Osnabrück in Germany.

His studies will focus on advanced fields such as Membrane Biology, Neuroscience, and Experimental Medicine.

Sharing the exciting news on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Badekale described 2025 as an amazing year. He expressed gratitude for being selected as the only Nigerian and West African for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in Biomembranes, adding that it was a dream come true.

Reflecting on his journey, he said he started as a young boy from Mushin with big dreams of exploring the world and making a positive impact.

He noted that by God’s faithfulness, those dreams are gradually becoming reality, proving that with determination and belief, nothing is impossible.

Badekale also used the opportunity to encourage students to value education. According to him, education remains one of the strongest tools to move from a local community to the global stage.

He advised young people to strive for excellence, hold tightly to their studies, and see education as a weapon for change rather than a scam.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Plus programme is an initiative of the European Union that equips students with interdisciplinary skills in biomedical and related fields. It prepares graduates for careers as researchers, practitioners, and leaders worldwide.
