Asking €50m for Ademola Lookman is over the top – Former Italian player, Di Canio tells Atalanta

Former Italy international Paolo Di Canio has criticised Atalanta for demanding €50 million from Inter Milan to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman.

The Super Eagles star has already agreed personal terms with Inter and is keen on making the move to San Siro.

Inter first made an offer of €40 million, which was turned down. They later returned with an improved bid of €42 million plus €3 million in bonuses, but Atalanta rejected it, insisting the amount was still below their valuation.

The Serie A club has made it clear they will only accept the full €50 million, even if part of it comes from performance-related bonuses.

Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, Di Canio said the asking price was too high, noting that in the Premier League, many fans are not even familiar with Lookman.

He admitted Atalanta were protecting their business interests but still felt the valuation was excessive.

He also criticised Lookman’s behaviour, urging the winger to remain professional and continue training with Atalanta despite his desire to leave.

Di Canio praised the Percassi family, who own Atalanta, for standing firm and not giving in to pressure from the player.
