Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that he wants to sign a new centre back following Levi Colwill’s long-term injury.
Earlier reports suggested that Chelsea had no plans to return to the transfer market to find a replacement for Colwill.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the club had not triggered any urgent plan to sign another defender.
According to Romano, Chelsea still have strong faith in their current squad, especially with new signing Jorrel Hato, who can play both as a centre back and a left-back.
This comes after it was officially confirmed on Thursday that Colwill will miss most of the 2025/26 season due to an ACL injury.
The England international has already undergone surgery after scans showed the seriousness of the injury.
Colwill, 22, got injured earlier this week during training shortly after returning for pre-season.
Speaking on Friday while Chelsea wrapped up their preseason tour, Maresca told Fabrizio Romano: “It’s a priority for me to get a new centre back. We will see if we go for it.”
