Iran investigates 20 arrested over alleged links with Israel

Iran’s judicial system is currently looking into the cases of 20 individuals who were arrested for reportedly having ties with Israel, following the recent 12-day conflict between the two countries.

Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir told reporters in Tehran on Saturday, August 9, that these cases are being closely examined by senior investigators, and more information will be shared as the inquiry moves forward.

In late July, Iran’s intelligence agency announced that it had captured 20 people suspected of being spies, Mossad operatives, and associates connected to Israeli intelligence officers within Tehran and other regions.

These arrests occurred shortly after Israel carried out a major bombing operation against Iran in mid-June. The attacks killed key military leaders, nuclear scientists, and many others, hitting military and nuclear sites as well as residential neighborhoods. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes.

Iran has promised quick court cases for those accused of working with Israel. Jahangir said the judiciary would be tough on spies and agents working for Zionist interests, warning that harsh punishments will be given to teach a strong lesson.

On August 6, Iranian officials executed Roozbeh Vadi, who was found guilty of spying for Israel by sharing details about Iran’s nuclear facilities and scientists. Vadi worked at the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute, part of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, according to the Fars news agency.

Iranian media also released a photo of an academic paper Vadi co-wrote with two nuclear scientists, Ahmad Zolfaghar and Abdolhamid Minouchehr, who were both killed during the conflict.
