11 abducted people rescued in Benue

Eleven people who were kidnapped in Benue State have been rescued and reunited with Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.

They were handed over to the governor at the Old Banquet Hall in Government House, Makurdi.

The victims came from five different states — three from Benue, one from Enugu, three from Taraba, two from Cross River, and two from Ebonyi. They were taken by armed criminals operating in the Sankera area of the state.

Their freedom was made possible through a coordinated operation by the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Police Force, the Civil Defence Corps, and other members of the Joint Task Force.

Governor Alia thanked the security teams for their hard work and dedication. He said the victims had gone through a frightening and painful time but showed courage and strength throughout the ordeal.

“It was a terrible experience. You went through a lot of trauma, but we thank God that the operation at the Sankera axis was successful, and you were rescued,” he said.

He praised the DSS, the Police Command, the Civil Defence Corps, and all members of the Joint Task Force for their efforts, adding that their sacrifice and dedication should be appreciated.

“This rescue is proof of what can be achieved through teamwork and commitment. Many officers are still in the field doing their part, and we must all work together to make our communities safe,” the governor added.
