Police in Osun State have begun an investigation after a woman was found dead near a mosque in the Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo on Monday.
The woman, identified only as Halimat, was discovered by officers of the Osun State Police Command following a distress call from the area.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, officers arrived at the scene and found the body behind a mosque, along with what appeared to be a handwritten note.
Ojelabi said the area smelled strongly of chemicals, believed to be Sniper, a common insecticide.
He added that there were no visible injuries or signs of physical violence on the body, which suggests the possibility of suicide.
A note believed to be written by the deceased was also found at the scene, reinforcing suspicions that she may have taken her own life.
A family member of the woman has been contacted and is cooperating with the police to help uncover the events that led to her death.
The police have promised a full investigation to determine the true cause of the incident.
