Five Nigerian women have been arrested in Ghana for allegedly engaging in prostitution. The arrests took place during a surprise security operation in the Asokwa Municipality, located in the Ashanti Region, as part of efforts by local police to reduce crime.
The police targeted known ghettos in the area, aiming to capture individuals suspected of criminal activity before they could cause harm. During the operation, twelve people were arrested at different locations, including seven men and five women.
The women later confessed to police that they were involved in prostitution as a means of survival. They gave their names as Empress David (22), Sonia Isaac (24), Loveth Michael (18), Success Moses (21), and Victor Alice (23).
According to the police, the operation was carried out on July 30th, 2025, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The five women admitted to operating from Sokoban Wood Village and are currently being held in custody.
The seven male suspects arrested were identified as Jacob Amaliba (30), Usif Awuro (39), Adu Kofi (22), Kwame Atobiga (39), Isaac Boamah (27), Emmanuel Boakye (29), and Pekazine Puakan (28). These men were picked up from ghettos believed to be drug spots in the Asago area.
No illegal items were found on any of the suspects during the search. However, police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and all twelve suspects will be screened and properly profiled.
