Nigerian footballer Ademola Lookman has removed all posts linked to his current club, Atalanta, from his Instagram account. This move comes as he tries to push for a transfer to another team, Inter Milan.
Reports say that on August 1, Atalanta refused an offer of €42 million plus €3 million in add-ons from Inter Milan. Even though Lookman had already agreed to personal terms with Inter, Atalanta still insists on getting €60 million before letting him leave.
In reaction to the stalled transfer, Lookman took several steps on social media. He unfollowed Atalanta on Instagram, removed the club’s name from his bio, deleted pictures of himself wearing the club’s jersey, and even changed his profile photo which used to show him in Atalanta colours.
On August 2, Lookman was not part of Atalanta’s squad during a pre-season match against RB Leipzig in Germany. Local news sources say he has a calf injury and will be out for a few weeks.
Lookman joined Atalanta in 2022 from RB Leipzig for €10.8 million. Since then, he has become a key player, scoring 52 goals in 118 matches. One of his most memorable moments was in the Europa League final in 2024, where he scored three goals to help Atalanta win their first European trophy.
In addition to his club success, Lookman was also named CAF African Footballer of the Year, following in the footsteps of another Nigerian player, Victor Osimhen, who won the award in 2023.
