Kansas Sheriff’s deputy sh0t and k!lled while responding to domestic violence call

A sheriff’s deputy in Kansas has tragically lost his life while answering a domestic violence call in Wyandotte County.

Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, responded alongside a Kansas City police officer to a civil standby request on the afternoon of July 26. The call came in around 3:30 p.m., and both officers were sent to check on the situation, according to the county sheriff’s office.

When the officers arrived at the home, a man opened fire, hitting Deputy Ming. The shooter was identified as 38-year-old Shawn Harris.

As news of the incident broke, more officers arrived at the scene. A gunfight followed between law enforcement and the suspect, who eventually locked himself inside the house. Harris was injured during the shootout.

Deputy Ming was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, but sadly, he didn’t survive his injuries. The suspect later came out of the house and surrendered. He was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Speaking at a press conference, Wyandotte County Sheriff Daniel Soptic said, “Deputy Elijah Ming died from the gunshot wounds he suffered. He served this community for nearly nine years and was deeply respected within the department.”

Harris was discharged from the hospital by the morning of July 27 and was immediately arrested. He now faces a capital murder charge for killing a law enforcement officer and is being held without bond at the Johnson County Jail.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the case is still under active investigation, and more updates are expected.
