BBNaija star and actor Pere Egbi has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari. In the letter, he talked about how Nigerians are still suffering and how much pain people carry from past years.
He shared the letter through social media and urged President Tinubu to think deeply about the struggles people are going through. He asked the president to lead with compassion and help Nigerians begin to heal from years of hardship and loss.
“Nigeria is hurting. Millions are broken. Many have lost faith in our political leaders, not because they want to, but because the pain left behind has fermented into bitterness and hate,” he wrote.
Pere admitted that he doesn’t agree with everything Tinubu has done since becoming president. Still, he believes Tinubu has the power to turn things around and bring lasting change to the country.
Apart from his message to the president, Pere also called out Nigerians who have been celebrating Buhari’s death. He said mocking someone after they’ve passed away is not right, no matter what they did while they were alive.
“Blast him while he’s alive. Express your displeasure while he’s breathing… But once he’s gone, for the sake of those he left behind… show some restraint,” he said in another post.
He pointed out that showing respect to the dead doesn’t mean you support everything they did. It simply means you choose not to act with hatred or bitterness.
“Blaming him for hardship and loss is valid. What’s not valid is assuming that not cursing a dead man equals endorsing his actions.”
Pere ended the letter by saying that Nigeria won’t truly heal if people continue to act with the same anger that once hurt them. He encouraged everyone to choose kindness and a better way forward for the sake of the country.
“You don’t correct injustice by becoming just as cold and heartless… Celebrating death doesn’t heal, it simply mimics the cruelty we claim to oppose.”
