APC lawmaker claims US and UK lawmakers are understudying Nigeria’s house of reps model

Philip Agbese, who serves as the Deputy Spokesperson for Nigeria’s House of Representatives, says the country’s parliament is now seen as a global example. He believes lawmakers from other countries are paying attention to how Nigeria’s legislature works.

He made this statement in Abuja on July 10, during the closing of the second House of Representatives Open Week. According to Agbese, the event has become a guide for how legislatures around the world should connect with the public.

Agbese said his friends from countries like the United States and the United Kingdom told him that their parliaments are sending people to Nigeria to learn from what the House of Representatives is doing.

He added that Nigeria’s parliament is now respected globally. He credited Speaker Abbas for this progress, saying the Speaker is creating a strong and lasting example.

Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo in Benue State, described the Open Week as a brilliant idea that helps people and lawmakers interact better.

He praised Speaker Abbas Tajudeen for raising the standard of leadership in the National Assembly. Agbese said Abbas is showing how modern leadership should look.

Agbese described the Open Week as a powerful and bold step that puts people first and shows real change. He said no Speaker has shown such a strong commitment to being open and transparent like Abbas.

He also said that international recognition is proof that Speaker Abbas is doing something right. He believes Abbas’ leadership is putting Nigeria’s parliament among the best in the world.

Agbese said Nigerians are starting to trust the House of Representatives again because of Abbas. He believes the Speaker has created a model for leadership that listens and responds to the people.

He called Abbas a special leader who is changing the way lawmakers behave. He said the 10th House is no longer just making promises, but actually doing the work.

Agbese said Abbas is changing the way parliament works by focusing on the needs of the people, choosing conversation over silence, and being open instead of secretive.

He also said he has received many calls from lawmakers in different parties, foreign diplomats, civil society groups, and regular Nigerians. They all agree that this House truly represents the people and that citizens are finally being heard.
