Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has put an end to rumours that he wants to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He made it clear that he is not going anywhere and remains fully committed to the party.
On Saturday, July 5, the governor released a statement saying the defection rumours were false and should be ignored by the public.
“I want to assure the good people of Osun State and Nigerians at large; I remain a loyal member and the leader of the PDP in Osun State,” Adeleke said.
He added that he had received many phone calls recently from people asking whether he was planning to leave the PDP. He said his focus remains on leading well and carrying out his administration’s plans.
“My focus remains on delivering good governance and fulfilling our 5-point agenda for Osun people,” he said. “Please disregard the fake news and continue to support our mission for a better Osun State.”
The governor’s statement comes as speculation continues that he may join a political coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has recently gained support from some opposition figures. There have also been ongoing rumours linking him to the All Progressives Congress (APC), though he has denied those reports multiple times.
Governor Adeleke’s first term will end in 2026, and he is expected to seek re-election on August 8 of that year. However, due to internal challenges and defections within the PDP, some political observers believe he may be weighing other options ahead of the next election.
Despite the speculation, Adeleke has restated his loyalty to the PDP and says he is focused on working for the people of Osun.
