A women’s group in Rivers State has asked President Bola Tinubu to caution the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for making offensive public statements. The group, known as the Rivers State Women Association of Nigeria (RIVSWAN), said Wike’s behavior is not suitable for someone holding a position in the federal cabinet.
They strongly criticised Wike for what they called a mean and baseless attack on Dame Judith Amaechi, who is the former First Lady of Rivers State.
Their reaction came after Wike went on a national TV program and claimed that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was paying Dame Amaechi N4 billion every month to train women from the Niger Delta region.
RIVSWAN dismissed Wike’s comments as completely false and said they were based on anger, lack of proper knowledge, and poor judgment.
The group urged the public not to believe what they described as a made-up story driven by Wike’s personal grudges and wrong information.
They said the whole accusation was not only ridiculous but also lowered the quality of public discussion. According to them, it either shows that Wike does not understand how the NDDC’s budget works or that he is trying to damage the reputation of a respected woman.
