Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shared fresh updates on the status of two key midfielders, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, as the team prepares for their Club World Cup quarter-final clash.
Chelsea will be playing against Brazilian side Palmeiras in the quarter-finals on Saturday. This comes after their victory over Benfica in the Round of 16.
In a pre-match interview, Maresca confirmed that Moises Caicedo will not be available for the game because he is currently suspended.
He also explained that Romeo Lavia had some fitness issues during their last match against Benfica. His condition is still uncertain.
“We’re not sure if Romeo Lavia will be ready,” Maresca said. “He had a small muscle problem at the end of the last game.”
Maresca added that if Lavia is not fit by match day, the team will have to explore other options in midfield since Caicedo is already ruled out.
Chelsea fans will now be waiting to see if Lavia can recover in time to feature in this crucial match.
