A very sad incident happened at a cereal factory in Perryville, Missouri, where a worker died after getting trapped inside a huge industrial oven. Police said it was a tragic accident that shocked everyone at the scene.
The man, 38-year-old Nicolas Lopez Gomez, also known as Edward Avilawas at work, lost his life on Thursday, June 26. He was working at the Glister Marylee Cereal Plant when the accident took place.
According to the police, Gomez was cleaning the oven from the outside using a power washer. Somehow, he ended up inside the machine. His coworkers quickly noticed and called emergency services.
Sadly, by the time emergency responders arrived, Gomez had already passed away. He was confirmed dead less than 20 minutes after help arrived. Investigators say they are not suspecting foul play but still don’t know how he got trapped.
Reports say the oven was not in use at the time of the accident, so it’s unclear what type of injuries caused his death.
The Glister Marylee factory is known for making cereal products for big stores like Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Albertsons, according to The Mirror.
This heartbreaking story comes only eight months after a similar tragedy. A 19-year-old named Gursimran Kaur was found dead in a walk-in oven at a Walmart store in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Her mother became worried after not hearing from her for over an hour. She went looking for her in the bakery area and noticed a strange leak coming from the oven. When she opened the door, she found her daughter’s burnt body inside. Emergency services later confirmed her death.
These painful incidents are strong reminders of the importance of safety at workplaces, especially in places with heavy and dangerous equipment.
