Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a politician from the Labour Party, has strongly criticised President Bola Tinubu’s government. He said the administration has failed the country and is responsible for the worst cost-of-living crisis Nigeria has seen in 40 years.
He made these comments during an interview on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics. Rhodes-Vivour said the quality of life in Nigeria has dropped badly, and things have not been this hard in decades.
He also spoke about the worsening security situation in the country. He said over 10,000 people have been killed in the North and around 7,000 in the South. According to him, it doesn’t matter what kind of policies the government talks about if people are still living in pain and fear.
Rhodes-Vivour criticised the government for spending heavily on luxury items while asking Nigerians to cut costs. He pointed out the renovation of the vice president’s residence as an example of wasteful spending when citizens are struggling.
He said the way money is being spent is only suitable for a wealthy nation. Meanwhile, many Nigerians are suffering, and the country has now been listed as the 10th poorest in the world, according to him.
To make things better in 2027, he said opposition parties must join forces. He warned that they cannot afford to divide their votes again like they did in the 2023 elections.
Rhodes-Vivour explained that if Peter Obi’s votes had been combined with Atiku Abubakar’s, President Tinubu would not have won. He said the only way forward for Nigeria is for all opposition parties to work together and present a united front.
