Gunmen Attack Anambra Community Meeting, Kill 10, Injure Others

Gunmen driving two SUV vehicles attacked a gathering in Ogboji, a town in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Monday evening. Over ten people were killed, and several others got injured.

The attackers stormed the venue where people—believed to be from Ebonyi State—were holding a meeting. Without warning, they started shooting at everyone in sight.

The reason behind the attack is still unknown. Some people believe it could be linked to the Monday sit-at-home protest, which has caused past violence in the southeast. Others think the shooting might be because of a disagreement in the group since the gunmen asked for the meeting’s minutes.

A disturbing video going viral on social media shows lifeless bodies on the floor, with loud crying in the background.

The police in Anambra have confirmed the sad incident. They stated that 10 people died and nine others were injured. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, the command strongly condemns the violence and is determined to find those behind the attack.

He explained that the armed men came in two SUVs and began shooting randomly at the people gathered at the meeting. Some of the victims were taken to the hospital, but sadly, 10 were confirmed dead. Their bodies have been taken to the mortuary.

The police and other security agencies have now taken control of the area. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the attackers.
