Chelsea confirm Joao Pedro signing from Brighton in a £60million deal

Chelsea has completed the signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £60 million. The club confirmed that Pedro has joined on an eight-year contract that will run until 2033. He is set to join the Chelsea squad immediately and will be available for their FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final game against Palmeiras.

Pedro, who started his career at Fluminense, impressed at Brighton after moving there from Watford in 2023 for just under £30 million. During his time with Brighton, he scored 30 goals in 70 appearances, making a strong impact at the club.

After signing with Chelsea, Pedro shared his excitement, saying Chelsea is a big club with a proud history. He mentioned that many great players have played there in the past and that the current squad is also filled with talent. According to him, being a Chelsea player means always having a winning mindset.

Brighton’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, reacted positively to the transfer, calling it a good move for everyone involved. He said it was a great financial return for the club and noted that they already have plenty of attacking options. He also wished Pedro well, saying it’s a great chance for him to play Champions League football and work toward a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad.

Joao Pedro is the latest in a string of big signings for Chelsea this transfer window. The club has already signed Liam Delap for £30 million, Dário Essugo for £18.5 million, and Mamadou Sarr for £18 million.

More players are also expected to join Chelsea soon. Brazilian youngster Estevao Willian will arrive after the Club World Cup. The club is also trying to sign Jamie Gittens and is close to completing a £50 million-plus deal with Borussia Dortmund.
