Police arrest 10 suspect over kidnap and m8rder of prominent farmer in Anambra community

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested 10 people for allegedly kidnapping and killing a well-known pig farmer and respected leader in the Nimo community, located in Njikoka Local Government Area.

The victim, Chief Augustine Chido, was kidnapped by masked attackers on the morning of June 19, 2025. They took him from his pig farm in Nimo, collected a ransom, but still ended up killing him.

His dead body was found and dumped near the same farm where he was taken. Police discovered the body on June 23 and moved it to a morgue.

Chief Chido, also called High Chief Gbafankiti na Nimo, was a retired contractor who worked with Chevron. He was also a respected member of the Nimo Royal Cabinet.

After retiring from his job, he returned to his village to focus on farming, especially raising livestock like pigs.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Sunday. He said officers from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu made the arrests on Saturday as part of their investigation.

According to the statement, the police are still questioning the suspects and will take the next steps after getting more information. The State Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, is overseeing the case closely.
