Former Nigerian senator Shehu Sani has shared his thoughts on the peace meeting between suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his former political mentor Nyesom Wike. He described the reconciliation as a positive step for the state.
Although Sani welcomed the move, he pointed out that the political conflict may not be completely over. He believes there could still be tensions beneath the surface.
He emphasized the importance of peace returning to Rivers State, saying that calm should be restored even if all issues haven’t been fully resolved.
Sani’s reaction followed a late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja where President Bola Tinubu brought together Fubara, Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in an effort to resolve the crisis.
According to reports from Daily Post, this meeting marked a turning point in the ongoing political crisis that had divided the state’s leaders.
On Friday, Sani expressed on his X account (formerly Twitter) that some of the people who had supported Fubara in the fight against Wike may not be happy with the reconciliation.
He said many of them expected Fubara to continue resisting Wike’s control, but reminded everyone that Fubara is not a protest leader like Omoyele Sowore. Sani concluded that while the conflict may still exist in some form, it is best for peace to return to Rivers State for now.
