Count me out as running mate to Tinubu in 2027 – Barau tells Northern groups

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has made it clear that he does not want to be President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 election.

He spoke against the calls from the Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly (NNPYA), which had asked President Tinubu to choose him as a vice-presidential candidate.

In a statement shared by his media adviser, Ismail Mudashir, Barau told the group to focus on supporting President Tinubu’s work instead of pushing for him to be the running mate.

Barau said the campaign for him to be Tinubu’s deputy is not right. He asked NNPYA and others who are pushing this idea to stop immediately.

He added, “If you really support me, please stop this unnecessary demand and help us support President Tinubu in making Nigeria great again.”

Barau encouraged everyone to unite behind President Tinubu to help him continue the important programs in his Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also promised to support the government fully and said it is everyone’s duty to work with President Tinubu to bring positive change to Nigeria.
