8 arrested, 1 shot as troops exchange gunfire with kidnappers in Kwara forest

Soldiers from the 22 Armoured Brigade carried out a successful operation in Patigi, Kwara State, where they arrested eight suspected kidnappers. The operation also led to the rescue of two kidnap victims.

Lieutenant Stephen Nwankwo, the army’s spokesperson for the brigade, confirmed the news in a statement released in Ilorin.

The operation was carried out over the weekend after the army received reliable information about a kidnappers’ hideout near Latandaji village in Patigi Local Government Area.

During the raid, the kidnappers tried to resist arrest, but the troops were able to overpower them with stronger firepower.

One of the suspects, identified as Mohammed Mohammed, was shot during the exchange and has been taken to Bacita Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Thankfully, the victims—Mr. Amos Moses and Mr. Philip Michael—were found unharmed and are now safely back with their families.

As part of the operation, the soldiers also found two motorcycles and some empty gun cartridges believed to have been used by the kidnappers.

The eight suspects are currently in army custody and will soon be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
