The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that some passengers were kidnapped after a Benue Links bus was hijacked by gunmen. The attack happened on Sunday evening along the Otukpo-Otukpa road.
In a statement released on Monday morning, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edet Udeme, explained that the bus involved was a Hummer with registration number 14B-143BN. It was later found abandoned by the roadside in Ugbokolo, which is in Okpokwu Local Government Area.
Once the police got the distress call, they quickly acted. Officers teamed up with the military and the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards to rush to the scene.
During their search in the nearby forest, the rescue team found and saved one of the victims. The man, Paul Terns, was able to escape from the kidnappers before the team found him.
The police have now sent more officers to the area to help in searching for the remaining victims and to make sure they return home safely.
The Benue State Police are also calling on the public to remain calm and to support the investigation as it continues.
