Presidency clears air on Tinubu’s national honour to Aisha Yesufu

The Nigerian presidency has cleared up confusion about a national award reportedly given to activist Aisha Yesufu. On Friday, the presidency said it never gave her any national honour.

Temitope Ajayi, who works as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, shared this information. He made it clear that the news about Aisha Yesufu receiving an award is false.

Earlier, DAILY POST reported that President Tinubu honoured many Nigerians and activists on Thursday. One of the people honoured was Shehu Sani, a well-known activist and former member of Nigeria’s parliament.

However, Aisha Yesufu is not a supporter of Tinubu or his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). She has often said that Tinubu is not her president. Instead, she supports Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

Yesufu believes Peter Obi’s ideas are better for Nigeria’s future. She has openly criticized the current government many times. She also thinks that Peter Obi actually won the 2023 election but that the results were changed unfairly to favor Tinubu and the APC.

Because of this, many people were surprised to see Aisha Yesufu’s name on the list of people honoured by the president. Someone even tweeted at her, saying it was a reward for supporting APC — which she has never done.

Aisha Yesufu quickly responded, saying it was not her on the list and that she was thankful for the correction.

To stop the confusion, Temitope Ajayi said the list that showed Aisha Yesufu’s name is fake news and should be ignored. He explained that the only honours given by President Tinubu were the ones he announced in his Democracy Day speech.

In summary, Aisha Yesufu did not receive any national honour from President Tinubu. The news claiming otherwise is not true.
