Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West, spoke out against President Bola Tinubu’s speech at the National Assembly on Democracy Day 2025.
After the speech, Senator Dickson told reporters that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, did not let him speak or raise important issues during the event.
He said Akpabio quickly went through the letters from President Tinubu to the National Assembly and stopped him from speaking. Dickson added, “That is not how democracy works. That is how military rulers behave.”
The Senator said Akpabio ignored his right as a Senator to bring up constitutional matters.
Meanwhile, some Nigerians have criticized President Tinubu’s speech, saying it did not talk about the real problems facing the country.
Many people were disappointed because the speech missed important issues troubling Nigeria.
Instead of focusing on these problems, the president spent time criticizing opposition parties.
Many Nigerians also felt the president did not speak about the violence and killings happening in many parts of the country.
