Reno Omokri opens up on being paid to support Tinubu government

Reno Omokri, a well-known Nigerian activist and political commentator, has spoken out about claims that he is being paid to support President Bola Tinubu’s government. He firmly said he is not receiving any money for his support.

Omokri, who is known for criticizing opposition politicians—especially Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election—talked about this issue during an interview on Channels TV on Wednesday.

He made it clear that his support for the Tinubu-led government comes from his love for Nigeria, not for personal gain. Omokri said he is acting out of patriotism and a desire to help the country move forward.

There have been rumors that Omokri is on the APC government’s payroll because of his constant support for many of President Tinubu’s policies. However, he strongly denied these claims.

He asked critics to think back to the years 2023 to 2025, when he was actively involved in Nigeria-related issues. He pointed out that he spent his own money on those efforts and was not paid by anyone.

Omokri explained that his motivation is not just support for Tinubu as a person, but his strong passion for Nigeria. He believes his actions are for the good of the country, not for financial rewards.

To prove his point, he gave an example. He recently traveled to Lagos, even though he doesn’t live there, to address false claims about the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.

He said he bought a flight ticket with his own money, invited journalists, and gathered everyday Nigerians to visit the site. He also bought a drone himself to check the road project, confirming that a 30-kilometer stretch of the highway is completed.

Reno Omokri’s message is simple: his actions are not sponsored. He believes in telling the truth and supporting what he thinks is right for the country—no matter who is in power.
