Elon Musk reached out to former President Donald Trump with a phone call before saying sorry for his harsh comments about him.
The call happened on the evening of June 10, according to a White House source confirmed by Reuters. This was the first time Musk and Trump talked directly since they had a public disagreement the week before.
A few hours after their call, Musk posted an apology early on June 11 on X (which used to be Twitter). He wrote, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.” But he didn’t say which posts he meant.
Earlier that week, Musk had posted some strong attacks on Trump. One was an unproven claim linking Trump to secret files about Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Musk also shared a post supporting Trump’s impeachment, but later deleted both messages.
This phone call was part of Musk’s effort to fix his relationship with Trump. Reports say that Trump’s Vice President JD Vance and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles reached out to Musk on June 6, asking him to stop the conflict.
Musk recently stepped down from his role in the government where he was in charge of making government work more efficiently. During Trump’s second term, Musk helped cut government programs and reduce the number of federal workers. Trump gave Musk a warm farewell event, but their friendship soon became tense.
Despite their past issues, Musk showed support for Trump sending National Guard troops to stop protests in Los Angeles after ICE raids. Musk also softened his criticism of Trump’s tax and policy plan, which he once called very bad. Trump calls the plan his “big, beautiful bill,” and it was a main cause of their argument.
Trump also seems to be calming down. On a podcast released June 11, he said, “I was disappointed in him. But it is what it is. Things like that happen. I don’t blame him for anything.”
