D’banj confirms joint tour with 2Face, Timaya

D’banj, a well-known Afrobeats star, has shared that he is planning to go on tour with his fellow Nigerian music legends, 2Face and Timaya.

He made this announcement during an interview with Adesope Live in London, United Kingdom.

During the interview, D’banj talked about the journey of Afrobeats. He said it started as a growing music style in West Africa during the 2000s and 2010s. Now, it has grown into a worldwide genre. He and his peers were part of that early movement.

He explained that Afrobeats didn’t grow globally just because of the hard work of artists and music industry workers. The African community living abroad also played a big part in spreading the sound.

D’banj said that Timaya recently told him it was time to return to the music scene more actively. He said they both agreed that they should go back on stage. He also mentioned that he had spoken with 2Face, who suggested that they go on tour together.

D’banj said he, 2Face, and Timaya have all made a lot of good music, and because the music industry now has a big and wide audience, it’s a good time for them to tour.

He also mentioned that he has a new song coming out soon with 2Face titled Feeling Good. He said the tour will be a way to show appreciation to the fans who have supported them for about 20 years.

He recalled the past when being Nigerian in London wasn’t something people proudly talked about. Back then, many preferred to identify as Jamaican because it was more accepted.

Today, African music is featured in nearly every UK film. D’banj said this is a big achievement not just for the artists, but also for the African diaspora who helped promote the culture.
