Segun Sowunmi, a top leader in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made it clear that he is not tied to any political figure. He said he is not against President Bola Tinubu and has the right to support anyone he chooses.

Sowunmi also stated that President Tinubu is more intelligent than many of his rivals, including Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Sowunmi responded to questions about his recent visit to President Tinubu. He said that meeting with Tinubu does not mean he has betrayed Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate he once spoke for.

He explained that as an adult, he has the freedom to make his own decisions. According to him, he is not controlled by anyone and does not oppose President Tinubu. “I stand by what I say and believe in my own arguments,” he added.

Sowunmi praised Tinubu for using different methods when dealing with people. He said this makes Tinubu much smarter than others, including Peter Obi.

Reports also show that Sowunmi is not the only one who used to work with Atiku but has met with Tinubu. In November 2024, Daniel Bwala, another former Atiku spokesman and once a strong critic of Tinubu, was appointed as the president’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication after meeting with him.
