Nigerian artist Ayra Starr has made history by securing her first BET Award. She won the Best International Act category during the 2025 BET Awards held at the Peacock Arena, Los Angeles, on Monday night.
This victory marked a significant milestone for Ayra Starr, especially after missing out on previous editions. She triumphed over other prominent nominees, including Rema and Tyla, to claim the award.
Despite her win, Ayra Starr faced setbacks in other categories. She lost the Best New Artist award to Leon Thomas and the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist award to SZA.
Another Nigerian artist, Tems, who was nominated twice in the BET Her category, lost to Summer Walker, who took home the award.
The biggest winner of the night was American rapper Kendrick Lamar, who won five awards out of his ten nominations, solidifying his dominance at the event.
