Security forces in Anambra State have taken down a suspected criminal hideout in Agulu-Ezechukwu, a community in Aguata Local Government Area. During the operation, one of the suspects was killed.
The police team recovered several items at the scene, including a grey Toyota Sienna with plate number EKY 03 FF, a white Mazda Hilux without a registration number, a motorcycle, and some mechanical tools. All the items are believed to be stolen or used in criminal activities.
The officers also found some household belongings such as cooking pots, gallons, food items, mattresses, and clothes. These items were likely stolen or used by the criminals staying at the camp.
The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the raid in a statement released on Friday in Awka, the state capital. He said the operation was led by the police but also included officers from the DSS, Nigerian Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and members of the Anambra Vigilante Group.
According to him, the joint security team went to the criminal hideout early Thursday morning. They burned down the hideout and killed one armed suspect during the gunfight.
He explained that the security team recovered all the vehicles, tools, and other materials during the raid. These items are now being investigated as possible stolen property.
Ikenga also said the raid lasted for about seven hours, with the security operatives exchanging gunfire with the suspects throughout the operation.
After the raid, the team continued to search the area, following blood trails in hopes of catching the suspects who escaped during the gun battle.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime in Anambra State and ensure that communities are safe from criminal gangs.
