The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has asked Governor Hyacinth Alia to come forward with the names of politicians he believes are behind the ongoing violence and killings in the state.
In a statement made public on Saturday, the PDP said the governor is blaming others instead of taking action to stop the killings.
Governor Alia recently said on a Channels TV program that some Benue politicians based in Abuja are part of the cause of insecurity in the state.
Reacting to this, PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, said the governor was avoiding his duties. He described Alia’s remarks as dangerous and a way to escape real leadership responsibility.
According to the PDP, blaming others is not helpful and will not solve the serious problem of insecurity. They said it’s disappointing and harmful for the governor to point fingers instead of finding real solutions.
The party noted that states like Plateau and Taraba are also dealing with similar violence. However, leaders in those places have shown more seriousness in trying to fix the problems. PDP said Governor Alia is not doing the same but keeps blaming Abuja politicians and other groups.
They asked if violence in other places like Plateau, Enugu, and Taraba was also caused by Abuja politicians or if Benue is being unfairly used for political attacks.
PDP reminded everyone that the attacks by armed herdsmen started long before Alia became governor. Past governors like Samuel Ortom and Gabriel Suswam dealt with similar issues but never blamed others.
Instead, those past leaders clearly identified the problem as attacks by armed herdsmen and focused on real ways to stop them.
PDP said it’s worrying that Governor Alia’s government doesn’t seem to have a clear and sensible plan for dealing with insecurity.
They also said the governor is wasting time on false claims and political talk rather than working on serious solutions.
According to the PDP, Benue’s security issues are too serious to be used for political games. The governor should stop using the situation to blame others.
They added that saying Abuja politicians are helping herdsmen commit violence is very dangerous and not backed by facts.
PDP warned that such careless talk from the governor could damage real efforts to make Benue safe.
The party also said Governor Alia is protected from legal action because of his office, but the people he is accusing are not — and his words could cause serious trouble.
If Governor Alia truly believes his claims, PDP advised him to provide proper security reports to the right government bodies instead of spreading rumors.
The statement ended by urging Governor Alia to lead with honesty and responsibility. As a Reverend, they said he should act in a way that brings people together, not divide them.
