Troops intercept truck loaded with live ammunition in Anambra, arrest ‘notorious gunrunner’

Troops in Anambra stopped a truck carrying more than 164,000 live bullets and arrested a man believed to be supplying illegal weapons in the area. The arrest was made through a joint operation by Sector 5 of Operation Udo Ka, the 63 Brigade, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

This action was based on reliable intelligence received by the security forces. A security expert named Zagazola Makama said the man arrested is Emeka Omenife, who is suspected of being involved in arms trafficking. Omenife was caught on May 29 along the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway and was handed over to the DSS for questioning.

During interrogation, he admitted that he is part of a group that smuggles ammunition from Ghana into Nigeria. After this confession, another man called Uchenna Obiora was arrested on May 30 at the Onitsha-Awka tollgate while waiting to receive the shipment. Security forces say the investigation is still ongoing as they work to find other members of the smuggling network.
