Peter Obi, who was once the Governor of Anambra State, recently visited Niger State to show his support to the people and government affected by severe floods. The floods caused a lot of damage in Mokwa and nearby communities.
Obi was joined by former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman and Dr. Yunusa Tanko during the visit. They were welcomed by the Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, who came on behalf of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
During the visit, Obi said the level of damage was very sad. He shared that more than 200 people have lost their lives, nearly 1,000 are still missing, and over 3,000 people had to leave their homes because of the floods. Many houses and personal belongings were destroyed.
Obi also mentioned that while he was in the UK, he had called Governor Bago to express his sympathy and condolences for the people affected by the floods.
He added that disasters like this, happening in different parts of Nigeria, affect everyone in the country. Obi said Nigerians must come together to help and support one another, especially during difficult times.
