The Lagos State Police have arrested a man believed to be part of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) after a tragic incident in Epe. He is accused of shooting a 17-year-old boy named Michael Olaifa in the Itapo area.

Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest on Thursday, May 29, 2025, during a statement shared with Punch newspaper.

According to reports, the shooting happened on Monday. However, the reason behind the attack is still unknown.

The shooting took place around 3 a.m. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been shared by police, allegedly opened fire on Michael and immediately ran away after the boy died on the spot.

The local community was outraged. Angry residents and young people carried the teenager’s body in protest. They marched from Itapo through different parts of Epe, demanding justice for his death.

The protest caused serious tension in the area. Security forces, including the police, arrived and used teargas and warning shots to break up the crowd.

A witness said the shooting left the community in shock. People were upset and used the protest to show how heartbroken and angry they were about the boy’s death.

The police later took control of the situation, removed the body from the protest, and took it to the hospital for official procedures.
