Full text of President Tinubu’s 2nd year anniversary statement

”Fellow Nigerians, as we mark the second anniversary of our government, I appreciate your strength and fearless spirit. Two years ago, you gave me the important duty to lead our country during tough times. Together, we have faced these difficulties with courage and determination.”

”The economic situation I found when I took office needed a new direction and bold ideas. I quickly put in place two important policies to stop Nigeria from falling deeper into trouble. It was clear that to keep the government working well and to help our people, we had to end long-standing fuel subsidies and stop corrupt multiple foreign exchange rates. These systems were no longer helpful and were choking our country’s future.”

”While our government works hard to fix and improve the economy and keep our country united, I thank all Nigerians for your strong support and trust in the big vision we share to lift our nation and renew our hopes.”

”We are halfway through this journey that started 24 months ago. Today, May 29, 2025, is a chance to tell you how much we have done and our progress toward social and economic growth.”

”When we started, filled with hope and belief in Nigeria’s unity and progress, I promised before God and fellow Nigerians to face our problems directly by rebuilding trust, encouraging growth, and fixing the economy. Today, I proudly say our economic changes are working. We are moving towards a stronger, more stable country.”

”Under our Renewed Hope Agenda, we promised to fight economic problems, improve security everywhere, reduce corruption, fix government, and help lift people out of poverty.”

”While making these changes, we have been honest about the challenges our people face. We value your patience. I remind you that without these reforms, Nigeria would have faced a financial crisis with high inflation, debt defaults, fuel shortages, a weak Naira, and a collapsing economy.”

”Even though the cost of living is still a challenge, we have made clear progress.”

”Inflation is starting to go down, with rice and other main food prices falling. The oil and gas industry is getting better; the number of rigs increased over 400% in 2025 compared to 2021, and more than $8 billion in new investments have been made. Our economy is now stable and ready for growth and can handle global shocks.”

”In 2025, we are meeting our financial goals. Income from oil is close to what we expected as we work hard to increase production. Our budget deficit dropped from 5.4% of GDP in 2023 to 3.0% in 2024 thanks to better income and clearer government finances. In early 2025, we made over N6 trillion in revenue.”

”We stopped the Ways & Means financing, which was causing high inflation. The NNPC no longer suffers from costly fuel subsidies and now adds money to the Federation Account. We are also securing fuel supplies through local refineries.”

”Our debt is improving. Though foreign exchange changes made our debt-to-GDP ratio about 53%, our debt payments compared to revenue dropped from nearly 100% in 2022 to under 40% in 2024. We paid off IMF loans and increased our foreign reserves by nearly 500%, from $4 billion in 2023 to over $23 billion in 2024.”

”Thanks to reforms, state governments earned over N6 trillion more in 2024, helping them reduce debts, pay salaries and pensions on time, and invest in important infrastructure and people.”

”One great achievement is our strong tax reform plan, which is already showing results. By the end of 2024, our tax-to-GDP ratio went up from 10% to over 13.5% in just one year. This happened because of better tax management and fairer policies encouraging growth.”

”We are removing multiple taxes that make it hard for small businesses to grow and join the formal economy. The tax changes help low-income families and workers by increasing their take-home pay. Basic goods like food, education, and healthcare now have 0% VAT. Rent, public transport, and renewable energy are fully exempted from VAT to lower costs.”

”We are ending wasteful and unclear tax breaks and instead give clear incentives to key industries like manufacturing, technology, and farming. These reforms focus not just on money but on creating fair economic growth.”

”Our youth are a priority, with tax rules that support digital jobs and remote work. Export incentives will help Nigerian businesses compete worldwide. The National Single Window project makes international trade faster and better.”

”To ensure fairness, we are setting up a Tax Ombudsman to protect taxpayers and make sure the system works for all, especially small businesses.”

”Most importantly, we are building a sustainable future with a new national fiscal policy guiding fair taxes, responsible borrowing, and careful spending.”

”These reforms aim to reduce living costs, promote fairness, and create a business-friendly economy that attracts investment and supports all Nigerians.”

”We are bringing new life to the Solid Minerals sector to diversify the economy. Revenue has increased greatly, and investors are building processing plants, moving away from the old pit-to-port approach to adding value.”

”We have also improved our health sector despite difficulties.”

”More than 1,000 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) are being fixed nationwide, and 5,500 more are being upgraded under the Renewed Hope Health Agenda. Six new cancer centers are being set up, with three ready. We provide free dialysis in pilot hospitals and help reduce the cost elsewhere. Over 4,000 women have had free cesarean sections through the Presidential Maternal Health Initiative. Health Insurance coverage rose from 16 million to 20 million people in two years.”

”Because of these strong policies, our economy is growing again. Real GDP grew by 4.6% in the last quarter of 2024 and 3.4% for the full year—one of the best performances in ten years.”

”A strong security system is vital for economic success. Our government is committed to protecting citizens and their property. Safety is our top priority.”

”Since taking office, we have improved cooperation among security forces, increased intelligence-led operations, and cared for our military and police. I salute their bravery and daily sacrifices. Even if we don’t always see it, their work lets us live safely.”

”Our military, police, and intelligence agencies promise to keep fighting new threats and challenges because it is their duty to protect Nigeria.”

”We have had some success. In northwest areas once controlled by bandits, our armed forces have restored peace, allowing farmers to return and highways to be safer. Security agencies have freed many kidnapped citizens. I assure you we will stay alert and work hard to end this evil. Every Nigerian deserves to live without fear.”

”Outside security, we focus on developing our people as a key part of national growth.”

”We have increased access to good education through building schools and student loans for poor university students. Our Renewed Hope Health program equips clinics and sends skilled workers to underserved areas. We are fighting public health threats and running social support programs.”

”Our youth programs provide funds, skills, and jobs. Our support for small businesses helps close inequality gaps. At the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), leadership has taken bold steps. NASENI uses digital tools, real-time dashboards, and full e-procurement, setting a high standard for public institutions.”

”With programs like Innovate Naija, Irrigate Nigeria, Asset Restoration, and Renewable Energy Parks, NASENI promotes wide industrial growth. They assemble electric vehicles, restart old factories, launch Africa’s advanced Rapid Diagnostic Kit Factory, and train female drone engineers. These efforts create jobs, restore pride in work, and open new futures for youth. This is the government in action, powered by young Nigerians’ energy and ideas.”

”Agriculture and food security are top priorities. We launched strong programs to increase local food production, support farmers, and keep food prices stable. We invested in mechanized farming by buying many tractors, tools, and fertilizers.”

”Our government continues major road building and repairs across all regions, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and Second Niger Bridge Access Road, among many others.”

”We are working to improve electricity by upgrading generation and transmission and investing in solar power to light homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals.”

”In the spirit of democracy and renewal, we prepare to host the Motherland Festival, welcoming the world to Nigeria. This event will highlight our rich culture, creative industries, and energetic people. It will show Nigeria’s beauty through tourism, culture, and innovation and invite global friends to rediscover us.”

”The Nigerian diaspora plays an important role in our national progress. Their skills, investment, and global views help shape our future. The government created policies like the diaspora bond and non-resident Bank Verification Number to make it easier for Nigerians abroad to invest and support Nigeria.”

”The Motherland Festival will unite voices from Africa and the diaspora, showing that Nigeria leads Africa and is a global partner ready to engage, inspire, and lead.”

”Once more, I recognize the sacrifices Nigerians have made to rebuild our country for today and future generations. Our journey continues, but our path and commitment are clear. With God’s help, the worst is behind us. The impact of our leadership is growing. The future is bright, and together we will build a stronger, more united Nigeria we all can be proud of.”

”Thank you all, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
