Wike is a disaster. I won’t attend PDP meetings until he is expelled – Sule Lamido

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has said he will stop attending all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) meetings unless Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and some other members he calls fake are removed from the party.

Lamido is one of the founding members of the PDP. He was not present at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on May 27 in Abuja. The NEC is the highest decision-making group in the PDP and includes important leaders like former and current presidents, governors, and top party officials.

Speaking to reporters, Lamido accused Wike of causing problems for the PDP. He said Wike has benefited a lot from the party but is now working to harm it. “Wike is a disaster. The party made him important, but now he is trying to destroy it,” Lamido said.

He also said he is unhappy that Wike continues to be part of the party’s leadership. Lamido stated, “I cannot attend meetings where fake members are present. Until they are removed, I will not join PDP meetings. I am loyal to the party, but I will not support this problem.”

Lamido criticized the recent closure of the PDP national secretariat in Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory Administration. He blamed Wike for this, saying, “Closing the PDP secretariat, which gave you support, is wrong and unfair.”

He also blamed the party’s national working committee (NWC) for not taking strong action against members who break party rules. “What is the NWC afraid of? Why hasn’t Wike been expelled? Why is Samuel Ortom still in the party’s board after publicly supporting Tinubu? These are serious problems. The party must clean itself,” Lamido said.

Lamido praised President Bola Tinubu for giving a 14-day deadline to those who owe ground rent in the FCT. He claimed Wike closed the PDP headquarters to try and impress the president. “The man Wike is trying to impress is the same one who told him off. This shows Wike is not trusted. Tinubu will soon abandon him too,” Lamido said.

Finally, Lamido warned against the danger of Nigeria having only one political party. He called it “state-sponsored sabotage” and blamed internal conflicts for the ongoing crisis in the PDP, which has been going on since 2022.
