Carlos Vela, the talented Mexican footballer known for his time at Arsenal and Real Sociedad, has officially retired at the age of 36. His football career lasted nearly 20 years.
Vela joined Arsenal’s youth team when he was only 16, after moving from Mexican club Guadalajara. He spent seven years with the Gunners, developing his skills in Europe.
For the past six months, Vela had been without a club after leaving Los Angeles FC (LAFC). Now, he has decided to bring his football journey to an end.

He closed his message by saying it was an honor to share his career with everyone and expressed how grateful he is for all the memories.

Antoine Griezmann, who played with Vela at Real Sociedad, thanked him for their friendship and said he loves him very much.
Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa also praised Vela, calling him a legend and saying he will be missed on the field.
Vela started his professional football journey with Arsenal in 2005. During his time in England, he made 62 appearances and also had loan spells with Salamanca, Osasuna, and West Bromwich Albion.
In 2011, he joined Real Sociedad in Spain. He became one of their most important players, scoring 72 goals in over 200 matches. He was even named the club’s Player of the Year in two seasons.
Carlos Vela also represented Mexico in international football. He played in the 2010 and 2018 World Cups, scoring 19 goals in 72 matches for his country.
One of his biggest early achievements was winning the U-17 World Cup with Mexico in 2005. He also helped the national team win the Gold Cup in both 2009 and 2015. His performance in the U-17 tournament, where he won the Golden Boot, helped him earn a move to Arsenal.
