Elon Musk’s relationship with President Donald Trump seems to be falling apart. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO recently criticized Trump’s government for making things harder for him and unfairly blaming the DOGE project.

On May 27, just before launching a SpaceX Starship into space, Musk spoke to the press. He strongly criticized Trump’s new $3.8 trillion spending plan, saying it causes more harm than good.

In an interview with CBS, Musk said the bill damages the progress the DOGE team is making. He added that instead of helping reduce the national debt, the bill will actually increase it.

Musk also told other news outlets that he and the DOGE team have been treated unfairly. He said they’re being blamed for problems they didn’t cause and are being made into easy targets.

Speaking to the Washington Post, Musk explained that people blame DOGE for everything, even if the team had nothing to do with the issues.

In the early part of Trump’s second term, Musk had a strong influence in the White House. He had helped Trump win the election and was welcomed into government circles.

However, things changed quickly. Musk made big changes by cutting jobs to reduce wasteful spending, which upset many government workers and officials.

These actions led to protests at Tesla showrooms. Some people even burned their Tesla cars. As a result, Tesla’s stock price dropped, and there were reports that the company’s board was thinking about replacing Musk.

In a later interview with ARS Technica, Musk admitted he had focused too much on politics. He said that while he didn’t leave his companies, he spent more time on government work than he should have. Lately, he has been stepping back from politics to focus more on business.

Musk also made fun of Trump’s bill by calling it the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” He joked that a bill could be big or beautiful, but not both.

The bill is expected to add another $3.8 trillion to the national debt, which is already around $36 trillion. Musk said the situation in the federal government is worse than he thought, and trying to make changes in Washington has been very difficult.

Trump’s bill is meant to support his major plans, including tax cuts and immigration reforms. But Musk doesn’t believe the bill will bring real improvements. Instead, he says it’s making things harder for those trying to innovate.
