The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cleared the air about the explosion that happened near Nyanya in Abuja. He said the incident was not a suicide bombing, as some people had reported.
On Monday, May 26, news spread that the explosion along the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass was carried out by a suicide bomber. This raised fear and concern among residents and on social media.
However, during a project inspection in Abuja on Wednesday, May 28, Wike said those reports were not true. He said investigations showed that it wasn’t a suicide bombing.
According to Wike, the person involved in the explosion had accidentally picked up explosive materials from a quarry site, not knowing they were dangerous. Unfortunately, the item later exploded and caused serious injuries to the individual.
The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the victim was badly injured and was immediately taken to the hospital for medical care.
Wike urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading false information, as proper investigations are ongoing to ensure such incidents don’t happen again.
