Recently, a message has been spreading online saying that President Bola Tinubu was invited by the White House but turned down the offer. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has said this message is not true.
The message claimed it came from the State House and said the Nigerian Presidency refused the invitation from the United States. It also said President Tinubu declined because he had important work to do in Nigeria.
However, the Presidency has confirmed that this information is false. Onanuga warned that whoever created this fake news will face the law one day. He shared on his X account that people spreading lies and false stories are trying to cause confusion.
Onanuga said, “Disinformation agents, hoax peddlers, fake news propagators, clickbaiters at work again. Whoever you are, one day, the law will catch you.”
This shows how important it is to be careful about what we read online. Not everything shared is true, and spreading false news can have serious consequences.
