To celebrate the second year in office of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has planned a special 19-day event to commission newly completed projects. This move is being led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The decision to set aside 19 days for project commissioning was made during the 14th meeting of the FCTA Executive Committee. Minister Wike chaired the meeting where these plans were confirmed.
According to a statement from the Minister’s media assistant, Lere Olayinka, the commissioning will start on June 10, 2025, and will last for 19 days.
Some key projects set for opening include the upgraded Abuja International Conference Centre and two new bus terminals located in Kugbo and Mabushi. The important Apo to Wassa road will also be officially opened.
There are more major roads on the list too. These include the N16 interchange, new roads connecting Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, and the Inner Northern Expressway running from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road). Other projects are the CN8 road from Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Court of Appeal, the N20 Flyover on Kubwa Road, and the road from Life Junction to Ring Road III.
More roads across the FCT will also be commissioned. These include the Kabulsa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti access roads, an access road in Giri District, and a 15km road from the A2 Junction on Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council. Roads in Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint areas in Bwari Area Council are also included.
Besides commissioning projects, the FCTA Executive Committee has also approved a new contract to upgrade streetlights on Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I).
Mr. Richard Dauda, the Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, explained that this was one of seven project proposals approved for execution.
He said the 14-kilometer, 10-lane expressway from Maitama to Gudu needs better lighting because the current streetlights, installed in 2005–2006, are now old and not bright enough.
The new lighting upgrade will include modern hybrid technology that offers brighter and more reliable lights. This will help improve night-time driving conditions and make the road safer and more secure.
