Five arrested as police dismantle illicit fertiliser production syndicate in Bauchi

The police in Bauchi State have shut down a group that was making and selling fake fertiliser. They arrested five people connected to this illegal activity.

On May 20, 2025, the police shared that they found machines and fake fertiliser products during their raid. The operation started when officers got a tip about fake fertiliser being made.

On May 10, police arrested Muhammad Abubakar in Magaji Quarters. He was caught selling fake herbicides and fertiliser in the market. When police searched his home, they found many materials used to make fake products. Muhammad admitted to making fake fertiliser and said a neighbor helped him.

A few days later, on May 14, police received another report about a shop on Gombe Road owned by Anas Abubakar. Police found over 44 bags of fake fertiliser in his shop and arrested him. Anas said he bought the fake products from Abdulrahaman Muhammad, who supplied raw materials to make the fake fertiliser.

Abdulrahaman got the materials from Ziya’u Bala. Police arrested Ziya’u and discovered a fake fertiliser factory in Natsira Hamlet. This factory had about 100 bags of fake fertiliser.

Police also found two more illegal factories owned by Sama’ila Abdullahi and Mujahid Abdullahi. Both men were arrested and said they sold fake fertiliser to Abdulrahaman.

The police destroyed all three factories and took away the machines used to make fake fertiliser.

The Bauchi State Police Commissioner promised that the police will continue to fight against fake fertiliser production and will ensure those responsible are punished by the law.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the suspects will face court charges soon.
