Workers from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are currently protesting at the Federal Ministry of Finance building in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
The protest is about unpaid allowances owed to many workers. Most of these workers belong to the Trade Union Congress, which is led by Festus Osifo.
When reporters arrived at the scene, they saw many protesters wearing red T-shirts. There was a lot of noise and movement at the main gate of the ministry.
Many staff members had parked their cars along the roadside. This made the traffic in the area worse than usual.
Police officers from the Federal Capital Territory Police command were present at the scene to keep peace and order during the protest.
The General Secretary of TUC, Nuhu Toro, was also seen at the protest. However, he did not explain why the workers were protesting.
One protester, who wanted to stay anonymous, said that their office was blocked, and they did not fully understand the reasons behind the protest.
At the time of this report, the Ministry of Finance had not made any official statement or responded to the workers’ demands.
It is important to remember that members of the Nigerian Legion also protested recently at the same location. Their protest was about unpaid pensions.
