Police arrest 2 vehicle thieves in Kebbi

Two men have been arrested by the police in Kebbi State for stealing a car in Shanga Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, shared this news in a statement released in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

He said that on May 19 around 4:30 p.m., a team of police officers and local vigilantes were on patrol along the Shanga/Dugu road. They stopped a suspicious unregistered ash-colored Peugeot 206. The car was driven by Umar Yusuf and Dalhatu Aminu, both from Birnin Kebbi town.

When the officers questioned them, the suspects suddenly drove off. The police quickly chased them and were able to arrest them.

During interrogation, the two men admitted that they had tricked the car owner in Birnin Kebbi. They told the owner they wanted to buy the car, but during the test drive, they ran away with it.

CSP Abubakar praised the police and vigilantes for their brave and professional actions.

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Bello Sani, said the police are ready to fight all kinds of crime across the state. He also told officers to stay alert while doing their job.

The Commissioner advised car dealers to be careful with customers, as some may have dishonest intentions.

The case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi. More investigations are ongoing to understand how the group operates and to catch other gang members.
