Gunmen Invade Church, Abduct Worshippers In Kebbi

On Sunday, a group of suspected criminals from the Lakurawa gang attacked Zagami village in Danko/Wasagu, Kebbi State.

The gunmen broke into a church while people were worshipping and kidnapped several worshippers.

They arrived on motorcycles and began shooting wildly, causing fear and confusion among those in the church.

After the attack, they forced a number of people into the nearby forest. The exact number of kidnapped victims is still not known.

One of the survivors, Mr. Ezekiel Danjuma, managed to escape and shared his frightening experience.

He said the gunmen came in large groups and surrounded the church before starting the attack.

“They came suddenly and quickly circled the church before we realized what was happening,” he said.

At the time of writing this post, no official statement had been released by the police or other security agencies.

This is another sad incident in the growing insecurity in Northern Nigeria, where criminals have been attacking villages, schools, and religious places.

People in the village are begging both the state and federal governments to act fast and rescue those who were taken.

“It was terrifying,” Danjuma added. “They started shooting and forced their way into the church. Some of us escaped through the back, but they still took many with them.”

The quiet farming village of Zagami is now filled with fear and sorrow. The community is part of the Kebbi South Senatorial District, which includes seven local areas.

Residents are still waiting for a response from the police and are urging the government to do more to protect them and bring the kidnapped people home safely.
