South African music sensation Tyla is making history by becoming the first African to host the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. This is a huge achievement for the Grammy-winning star, and it’s another proud moment for Africa on the global stage.
The announcement was made on Thursday when the organizers of the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards revealed the host and the list of nominees. Tyla will be the main host of the event, which will air live on June 21 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
That’s not all—Tyla has also been nominated in two categories! She’s up for Favourite Global Music Star and Favourite Music Collaboration for her song Show Me Love with WizTheMc and bees & honey. Her talent continues to shine on international platforms.
Big names like Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, and Lady Gaga are leading this year’s nominations with four nods each. Close behind are Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, Jelly Roll, and Jack Black, each getting three nominations.
Tyla couldn’t hide her excitement. On Thursday evening, she posted on X (formerly Twitter): “I’m really about to host the kids choice awards.” It’s clear this is a dream come true for her—and an inspiration to young artists across the continent.
