UTME mass failure: Weeping not enough, resign – Don tells JAMB Registrar

A lecturer from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Christian Okeke, called on the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, to do more than just cry about the board’s mistakes; he should resign immediately.

Okeke made this demand after JAMB admitted it faced technical problems during the recent 2025 UTME exams.

According to reports, JAMB confessed to errors during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The lecturer said asking some exam centers to retake the test is not acceptable. He believes only releasing the correct results will fix the problem.

Okeke added that the board only acted because pressure from concerned groups forced them to, otherwise, they would have kept ignoring the issue.

He also said that Oloyede’s tears and taking responsibility are not enough for such a bad exam experience that affected many young students.

“He needs to take one more step and resign so the government can fix the board and make it work better,” Okeke said.

Okeke said it was painful and wrong for JAMB to first defend the bad results, which showed over 1.5 million students scored below 200 marks, saying the results were a true reflection of their abilities.

He explained that JAMB would have never admitted their mistake or acted if not for the strong pressure and threats of legal action.

“How can crying fix the damage done and the sadness the candidates feel? It was like a national tragedy,” he said.

He also criticized the plan to make students in 65 centers in Lagos and 92 centers in Owerri Zone rewrite the exam, calling it very insensitive to their feelings.
