Pray for peace in our land, don’t abscond – Abia govt advises Muslim Pilgrims

The Abia State government has encouraged Muslim pilgrims from the state who are preparing to go on the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia to pray for peace in Abia and across Nigeria. They have also been asked to keep the good name of the state while representing it abroad.

At a send-off ceremony held in Umuahia, Professor Kenneth Kalu, the Secretary to the State Government, spoke to the pilgrims. He urged them to follow the rules and warned them not to abscond or run away during the pilgrimage.

Professor Kalu reminded the pilgrims to stay law-abiding and to reflect on the deep spiritual meaning of their journey to the Holy Land. He stressed that they should act as proud and respectful ambassadors for Abia State.

He said, “I urge you to remember Abia and Nigeria in your prayers during this sacred journey. Do not lose focus on the purpose of Hajj. Represent our State with dignity and do not abscond.”

Professor Kalu also thanked Governor Alex Otti for his support in making the pilgrimage possible. He noted that the government is committed to supporting all religions and caring for the spiritual well-being of every citizen.

Before this, Sheikh Ali Ukiwo, the Chairman of the Abia State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti. He promised that the pilgrims would honor the trust placed in them by the government and community.

Sheikh Ukiwo said, “The Governor has shown great support to the Muslim community. We are committed to upholding that trust and will represent Abia with honor.”

Sarki Yaro Danladi, the leader of the Northern Community in Abia and head of the 2025 Hajj group, also shared his happiness at the opportunity. He pledged to continue praying for the progress and prosperity of Abia State and Nigeria.

This send-off marks an important moment for the Muslim community in Abia, showing unity, faith, and hope for peace in the state and country.
